Polished, luxe, a little dramatic.

Glam, with restraint

Glam goes wrong more often than any style here, and it goes wrong in a predictable way: everything shines. Mirror, metal, velvet, gloss, crystal, all at once, until nothing stands out because everything is competing.

Glam

Is Glam your style?

The rooms that work are the ones with restraint in them. We have finished 29 rooms in this style, and the ones that read as expensive rather than loud are the ones where most surfaces are quiet.

You're not afraid of a statement. Rich contrast, metallic accents, velvet, and a sense of occasion make your spaces feel elevated and confident.

What makes a room glam

Contrast, and a small number of reflective surfaces placed where they catch light. A mirrored piece opposite a window, a metallic frame, polished stone on one surface rather than three.

Depth of colour helps more than brightness. A deep ink, a true charcoal, an olive with some black in it, against which a brass or a pale marble reads as luxury rather than as sparkle.

Upholstery is where the budget belongs. Velvet, boucle and good leather read as expensive from across a room, which is more than can be said for most accessories.

Where to spend and where to hold back

Spend on the piece you touch and the piece you see first. A sofa in a proper fabric and one statement light will carry a room. Thin metal and cheap gloss announce themselves immediately, so anything shiny is worth buying properly or leaving out.

Hold back on quantity. Pick one reflective material and repeat it, rather than using brass, chrome and mirror in the same room. Keep the walls and the floor calm so the shine has something to sit against.

A glam room that reads well is usually about eighty percent restrained and twenty percent not.
